COURSE DESCRIPTION:

 

Complete your GMDSS Radio Operator course online! NEMO°’s GMDSS Radio Operator Course combines online simulations, animations, helpful explanations, quizzes and final exam to make your training experience engaging and comprehensive. You will explore the functionality and use of all GMDSS components ranging from daily communication to emergency situations using our suite of HALO° simulators. All text passages include an audio component to assist ESL students. Upon completion of the course, you will have access to your course completion certificate as a record of your training and will be able to access the course at any time to refresh your knowledge or practice on our full suite of GMDSS simulators. This course covers required training and competences in Table A-IV/2 of the STCW Code for GMDSS Radio Operators. GMDSS is mandated for ships internationally by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS) Convention.

 

This course is approved by both the US Coast Guard’s National Maritime Center for US Domestic licenses and for international seafarers by the Commonwealth of Dominica Maritime Administration. When purchasing the course, ensure that you are purchasing the correct version.

 

Upon successful completion of this course and passing the prescribed examination, a trainee should be able to:

 

  • Efficiently operate GMDSS equipment required in sea area A1, A2, A3,  and A4.
  • Fulfill primary radio communications responsibility during distress, urgency, safety and routine incidents.

 

Given the number of serious problems experienced in the GMDSS resulting from numerous, often accidental, false distress alerts, training will be provided to ensure the awareness and avoidance of unintentional transmission of false distress alerts, and the procedures which mitigate the effects of false distress alerts following unintentional transmission.

 

Any applicant who successfully completes your Global Maritime Distress & Safety System (GMDSS) (Blended) (NOREMI-853) course will satisfy:

 

• The GMDSS training requirements of 46 CFR 11.305(a)(3)(viii); 46 CFR

11.307(a)(3)(viii); 46 CFR 11.309(a)(4)(xv); 46 CFR 11.311(a)(3)(ix); 46 CFR

11.313(a)(3)(ix); 46 CFR 11.315(a)(3)(vi); and46 CFR 11.319(a)(4)(ix); AND

 

• The requirements of 46 CFR 11.604, to meet Section A-IV/2 of the STCW code as amended.

 

 

Please note: If you are taking the USCG Approved Version, students will need to schedule a 1-day assessment and exam session at NMI.

The VHF Marine Radio Course combines online simulations, animations, helpful explanations, quizzes and final exam to make your training experience engaging and comprehensive.

 

To receive an international recognized license through the Commonwealth of Dominica Maritime Administration Office of Marine Personnel lessons, reviews, and exams you will explore the functionality and use of a marine radio in various circumstances ranging from daily communication to emergency situations using our HALO° VHF DSC Radio Simulator.

 

All text passages include an audio component to assist ESL students. Upon completion of the course, you will have access to your course completion certificate as a record of your training.

 

The course will focus on the roles that a marine radio plays in one’s safety at sea. These topics include:

 

•    How to operate a marine radio

•    Procedures and licensing that are essential to the usage of a marine radio

•    History, theory and functions of a marine radio

•    Required equipment

•    Technical aspects and conventions of calling when using a marine radio

•    Legal restrictions and regulations of maritime telecommunications
